Bertie

Bertie, is a small wine bar on a quiet street in one of Perth's oldest suburbs - Bassendean. TwofromTwo were asked to develop an identity that was sensitive to the history of the suburb and that would feel like a gift to the locals. It is a trendy bar, with a cracking wine list and a unique British-inspired menu.

We didn't want to crash into a historic suburb with something that felt shiny, new and polished so we developed a type-lead brand identity that feels like it has always been there. The janky type with its quirky characters feels like it has been written by a bumbling Englishman, King George VI aka Bertie himself (see The King's Speech). There are no rules as signage, menus, posters, print and digital materials throw out the rule book and let the type be the hero. It's a unique style that is distinctive and looks like no other wine bar in WA.
